Identify the Tamil layout before practising

Tamil InScript, Tamil99, and phonetic input use different rules. The named built-in reference on this website is Tamil InScript. Do not use its physical-key guide to learn Tamil99. Use System / other when your layout is different.

Enable the Tamil method you normally use on your device for these exercises. The text field leaves composition to that method. A Roman spelling belongs in a phonetic IME, while a positional layout expects the keys assigned to Tamil characters.

Understand what the pulli changes

The first drill distinguishes க from க். The pulli in க் suppresses the inherent vowel. It is an actual character in the text, not a punctuation dot to insert after the letter. Continue with கா, கி, and கீ to compare vowel-sign choices.

A dependent vowel sign is entered with its consonant according to the input method's sequence, and the renderer positions the visible parts. Do not add spaces to move a sign into place. Check the completed form before proceeding.

Practise words with different endings

தமிழ், பள்ளி, and காலை make you inspect different letters and vowel signs. In தமிழ், check the final ழ். In பள்ளி, do not drop the repeated consonant structure just because the middle looks compact.

The final sentence says that we read Tamil every day. Repeat it accurately before taking a timed Tamil test. If you are new to the language itself, learn the word meanings alongside the drill; copying text alone does not teach pronunciation or grammar.
