About the project

Learn the input. Understand the result.

TypeScore Lab is a typing practice website for people who want to enter text more accurately in English and other writing systems. It combines short lessons, untimed exercises, timed tests, and personal result analysis.

Who this is for

You may already speak a language and be learning its keyboard, or you may be learning to copy a new script. The tutorials explain character entry, marks, spacing, and input methods. They do not replace a language course, teach every spelling rule, or certify fluency.

How the lessons work

Each language tutorial focuses on specific entry problems and includes three exercises with hints. Use them to identify a difficult movement or composition step, then take a short test. The exercises accept your device's own keyboard or IME, including its candidate choices.

The optional built-in layouts use named Windows keyboard references from Unicode CLDR release 42. They are references for those layouts, not a promise that every regional layout, mobile keyboard, or operating-system version has identical keys.

How content is maintained

TypeScore Lab publishes the lessons and practice exercises on this site. Language articles link to relevant keyboard and input-method references. Updates should correct specific instructions and examples, with the revision date shown on the article. Readers can report an error or suggest a lesson.

Input handling is checked with mapping tests and browser tests. Browser tests simulate composition; they do not establish that every native IME and candidate window behaves identically. We welcome reports that include the operating system, browser, input-method name, and the exact text that failed.

What the results mean

Scores measure this practice task. They are not an accredited typing certificate, an employment assessment, or a fair ranking between languages. Read the scoring methodology for examples and limitations.
