Set up your keyboard

Match the guide to your device keyboard. Leave simulation unchecked when your system already types this language; enable it to practise these positions using English input.

Find your index fingers

Find the bumps at the F and J positions. Alternate your index fingers; use either thumb for Space.

These are key-position drills, not words. The large key label shows the output; the small label names its US keyboard position. Follow the highlighted finger. Slow down until each movement feels comfortable; speed comes with accurate repetition.

Add your middle fingers

Place your middle fingers beside your index fingers. Tap lightly and keep the other fingers resting on the home row.

Add your ring fingers

Use your ring fingers for these home-row positions. Keep your wrists relaxed.

Add your little fingers

Use your little fingers at the outer home-row positions. Avoid moving the whole hand.

Join the home row

Combine the home-row movements. Your index fingers reach inward for the G and H positions, then return home.

Reach the upper row

Reach up with the highlighted finger. Return it to the home row after each press.

Reach the lower row

Reach down with the highlighted finger. Keep your eyes on the next key and maintain a steady rhythm.

Practise the number row

Reach to the number row, then return home. Key outputs depend on your layout; follow the character shown.

Use the opposite Shift

Hold Shift with the opposite hand while pressing the highlighted key. Release Shift before each space.

Choose Brazil or Portugal deliberately

The Brazilian ABNT and Portugal references have different symbol positions. A physical keyboard may also have keys absent from another model. Check the full layout name in the guide rather than selecting the first option containing Portuguese.

Use your installed keyboard for the lesson exercises. On layouts with dead accents, the accent waits for the following letter; it is normal for the first press to produce no visible character. In the main test, the large key sequence shows each step of the selected reference.

Separate nasal, acute, and circumflex marks

In pão and mão, ã has a tilde. In põe, the tilde is on õ. By contrast, café ends in é and você ends in ê. Practise the two exercises separately if you find yourself choosing the right base vowel but the wrong mark.

The letter ç in ação is not c. If your device keeps replacing your spelling, disable unwanted autocorrection for practice or inspect the committed text before continuing. Match the target rather than relying on what a suggestion originally displayed.

Move from marks to a full phrase

The final sentence combines a nasal vowel, ç, an acute accent, and normal spaces. Read the accents before you start so that you can concentrate on execution rather than discovering each mark at the last moment.

After a clean repetition, take a short Portuguese test and note which kind of mark caused a correction. Build the next practice session around that mark rather than repeating only familiar unaccented words.
