Set up your German keyboard

Keep the built-in German QWERTZ keyboard option enabled to type native characters from an English physical keyboard, or turn it off to use your installed system layout. TypeScore Lab accepts native Unicode text.

Start with words, then sentences

Begin with the word mode to learn common German letter patterns without the pressure of a long test. Move to sentence mode when individual keys feel predictable.

Read slightly ahead of the current character. This gives your hands time to prepare and reduces pauses between words.

Use the keyboard map efficiently

The keyboard coach highlights a physical key and recommended finger whenever a direct mapping exists. Accented letters may use a dead key or your system's composition method.

Some writing systems combine multiple Unicode characters into one visible unit. Enter letters in the normal order for your keyboard and let the browser render the completed shape.

Build reliable speed

Aim for at least 95 percent accuracy before increasing your pace. Compare net WPM, raw WPM, corrections, and consistency across several sessions rather than judging one score.

A useful routine is three minutes of key review, five minutes of word practice, five minutes of sentences or passages, and two minutes revisiting the keys that caused errors.
