Practise French accented letters, cedillas, apostrophes, and a complete sentence while distinguishing keyboard variants.

Identify your French layout variant

French can be entered with several layouts. The built-in French AZERTY reference represents the named Windows layout, not every French, Belgian, Canadian, or newer standardized layout. If the guide disagrees with your device, use System / other rather than relearning a key from the wrong chart.

When moving from QWERTY to AZERTY, do a short warm-up before testing speed. Familiar finger movements may produce different letters, and number-row behavior can differ. The goal is predictable output on your actual device.

Practise the accent, not just the base letter

The first drill uses é in été, è in mère, and ê in fête. These are three distinct target characters. On a dead-key layout, compose the accent and vowel; on a layout with a dedicated accented key, use that key. A universal English-key shortcut would be misleading here.

The second drill adds ç and apostrophes. Type the straight apostrophe displayed in l'école. A word processor may prefer a curly apostrophe, but an exact-copy exercise intentionally distinguishes the two.

Speed measures correct text output. Accuracy includes incorrect attempts even after correction; compare tests using the same language and input method.
